De Vere, host venue of the European Senior Tours flagship event, has joined forces with ISPS Handa to create a unique tournament for blind and disabled golfers that will culminate with a Grand Final on 5th June at De Vere Slaley Hall during the week of the ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship. Following four qualifying tournaments at De Vere venues across the UK in May, two players from each event will go on to the Grand Final, where they will have the chance to compete alongside golfing and sporting legends in a unique tournament televised on Sky Sports. Having welcomed the likes of ex-Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance, as well as two-time Major champion Sandy Lyle in the past, the unique event will offer the blind and disabled golfers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. De Vere Club Ambassadors Freddie Flintoff and Sophie Horn will play alongside the headline professionals, as well as the blind and disabled golfers, to launch the PGA Seniors Championship in style at the stunning Northumberland resort.
The four regional qualifying events will take place from 8th – 15th May at four of De Vere’s flagship venues including Championship host Slaley Hall in Northumberland (8th May), Belton Woods, Blackpool (9th May), WokefieldPark, Reading (10th May), and Mottram Hall in Cheshire (15th May).
With only 24 spots available at each qualifying event, De Vere and ISPS Handa is encouraging blind and disabled golfers of all abilities to enter what will be a competitive, fun, and memorable day of golf. Breakfast, golf, dinner and a prize presentation is included in the day’s itinerary at no cost to the entrants, as well as complimentary golf lessons from four of De Vere’s leading PGA Professionals.
“This is a great opportunity for blind and disabled golfers to compete at some of the UK’s leading golf resorts. For those new to the sport, they will be able to speak to one of our PGA Professionals and receive a free lesson, while more experienced golfers have the chance to win a great trip to the flagship event on the European Seniors Tour and play alongside golf legends and sporting celebrities,” commented Daniel Hodson, De Vere’s Director of Golf, Leisure & Spa.
De Vere will host the Grand Finalists at the luxury hotel at Slaley Hall during the week of the ISPS PGA Seniors Championship, with players competing on the Priestman Course in the Grand Final on Tuesday, 5th June. The three leading players from the Grand Final will then compete in a Sky Sports televised ‘3-hole Celebrity-Pro Challenge’ on the PGA Championship host course, The Hunting.
