Chinese Taipei’s Yani Tseng ended winless run that stretched back to 2014 when clinching an emotional victory at The Wistron Ladies Open at Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Taipei.

Playing on course that she first played on as a 14-year-old junior, Tseng fired rounds of 63 and 67 to finish on 14 under par and win the weather-shortened event by four shots from New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey.

Despite a challenging week in Taoyuan of unpredictable weather conditions of wind, rain, and fog, the tournament was able to still be completed but in a reduced 36-hole format

Tseng started the final day tied at the top with Thailand’s Nook Sukapan, but still had four shots to complete of round one due to it being suspended on Saturday. She had an impressive run of five birdies on the bounce and carded an additional three including one on the last.

“I’ve been waiting for this trophy for so long,” said Tseng, 36, the five-time major champion who spent almost two years at the top of the women’s world ranking in 2011-13, and whose last win came at the Taifong Ladies Open in 2014. “To win this tournament in my home country and in front of my family and friends is amazing. I’ve been really emotional from this win, and it just shows you should never give up on your dreams.”

The win means she is now eligible for LET membership, where she’ll be able to have the opportunity to accept over the coming days.
