TaylorMade confirms Fleetwood club deal

1.18pm 20th January 2021 - Sponsorship & Events

Following a teaser video released by TaylorMade in mid-December announcing its signing of Tommy Fleetwood to an equipment sponsorship contract, the company has today confirmed formal details of the deal ahead of the Ryder Cup star’s appearance in European Tour’s opening event, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which begins tomorrow (January 21).

Fleetwood will begin the season playing with a TaylorMade driver, fairway woods and irons, as well as using the company’s TP5x ball. He is currently testing TaylorMade wedges and putters before settling on his preferred models and set up.

“This could be the start of something special,” said Fleetwood, who is currently ranked 17th in the world. “I have a feeling there are some exciting times ahead, I couldn’t be happier to join Team TaylorMade.”

Fleetwood has been playing a set of TaylorMade prototype irons since 2019 and has a close relationship with Adrian Rietveld, who was TaylorMade’s lead technician on the European Tour before making the move stateside in 2019. He also played a variety of TaylorMade metalwoods after becoming an equipment free agent in 2016.

David Abeles, TaylorMade Golf’s CEO, said: “Tommy Fleetwood is a premier golfer, but he’s an even better person. Statements like that get thrown around a lot, but if you ever have the chance to spend time with him, you’ll immediately know it’s true. There’s a warmth, sincerity and wit about Tommy that stands out. He’s the ideal fit for Team TaylorMade as we embark on a journey to become the most people-centric golf brand in the world. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the team.”
