SWALEC has signed up as the latest Patron sponsor of The Celtic Manor Wales Open which takes place this year from 3rd-6th June. One of the leading energy providers in Wales, SWALEC joins the likes of Zurich, Diageo, Rolex and BMW in backing the £1.8m golf tournament on The European Tour.
The Celtic Manor Wales Open takes on added significance this year as it is played on the same Twenty Ten Course which will host The Ryder Cup later in the year. Many of the leading contenders for the European team will be hoping to catch the eye of Captain Colin Montgomerie and Ryder Cup stars Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Oliver Wilson and David Howell have already indicated they will be among the starting field.
SWALEC is already a substantial supporter of Welsh golf and has signed up to a four year deal. It is currently in its third year of sponsorship of the SWALEC Wales Challenge at The Vale Resort in August and also supports grassroots development through its partnership with Golf Development Wales. Currently, its sponsorship is funding ‘welcome to golf’ booklets for players new to the sport in Wales and free taster sessions at selected clubs across the country.
SWALEC’s sponsorship programme aims to support the communities it serves. It has an extensive programme including a three-year partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, which includes the SWALEC Cup, Plate & Bowl and the SWALEC Leagues, and a ten-year agreement with Glamorgan Cricket on venue sponsorship of the SWALEC Stadium.
SWALEC’s Sponsorship Manager Huw Lock said: “We are delighted to be adding The Celtic Manor Wales Open to our sporting portfolio. This is one of the biggest events in Welsh sport and we are all looking forward to watching a fantastic tournament this summer as we look ahead to Celtic Manor staging The Ryder Cup during the autumn.”
Celtic Manor Marketing Director Gareth Rees Jones added: “We are extremely pleased to be welcoming on board such a strong Welsh brand as SWALEC to our family of sponsors. SWALEC has always been a major supporter of Welsh sport and we’re delighted that they have chosen to become a Patron sponsor of The Celtic Manor Wales Open in what is a very exciting year for Welsh golf.”
