Solex teams up with Melanoma Fund

11.38am 25th July 2024 - Sponsorship & Events

Working to break down the barriers around sunscreen application in sport, Solex, the revolutionary sun cream applicator, designed for sportspeople and the outdoors, has partnered with the Melanoma Fund.

The partnership will help those spending prolonged periods of time exposed to the sunlight to stay protected, whilst keeping hands clean, thanks to Solex unique hands-free application.

The applicator is particularly pertinent for those taking part in outdoor sports such as golf, cricket, tennis, and cyclists – allowing sportspeople to protect themselves without hindering performance.

The partnership between the Melanoma Fund and Solex initially grew from a shared involvement in golf, with the charity’s ‘Slip! Slap! Swing!’ campaign providing free sun protection resources to golf clubs throughout the UK. This has been instrumental in ensuring golfers understand why it’s important to protect themselves from the sun before heading to the first tee.

However, for full-round protection, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours. With many golfers loathed to do so, due for fear of the dreaded ‘greasy grip’ that can be associated with traditional sunscreen and sprays. Solex’s unique applicator solves this issue, leaving hands clean, giving golfers another option and no excuse to not protect themselves whilst on course.

Interest in Solex’s product has grown greatly since its first introduction to the UK market in early 2024, with notable destinations such as Gleneagles, St Andrews, The London Club, Adare Manor, and Loch Lomond all carrying the product in their pro shops. The applicator bottle can also be branded, helping to create a useful, yet memorable purchase from the club’s shop.

Of the partnership, the Solex team said; “We are delighted to team up with the Melanoma Fund as we share the same goals of increasing awareness of the need to reapply sunscreen every two hours. Over 60% of the UK population avoid this, which leads to sunburn or worse.

The charity has done a great job in creating more awareness around the risk of skin cancer, which affects many golfers, and we’re looking forward to continuing that educational process.”

Michelle Baker, CEO of the Melanoma Fund added: “Our mission is to break down the barriers and remove the excuses around sunscreen. Our partnership with Solex is based on solving that problem and we are delighted to get this message across in as many ways as possible.

With support from Solex, we can get the message to golfers and all other sportspeople, that they no longer need to choose between their performance or their health”.

Solex will be joining the Melanoma Fund at LIV UK , held in July at JCB Golf & Country Club near Staffordshire. Those attending the tournament are strongly encouraged to head over to the Fan Village to visit their Sun-Sorted! stand, get a free goodie bag and learn more about the importance of sunscreen application, as a player, or during the week as a spectator.

Attendees will also be able to win a fourball at the London Golf Club on the stand.
