Sir Nick Faldo presents prizes at Faldo Series Charity Golf Classic in Athens

The Glyfada Golf Club of Athens (GGCA) is honoured to welcome Sir Nick Faldo in Athens and to announce the ‘Faldo Series Charity Golf Classic’ a 2-day golf tournament on 24th-25th November, 2012. GGCA has been in close cooperation for the past three years with the Faldo Series and has since organized an annual international golf tournament for young golfers up to 21 years of age.

Greeceis one of 28 countries worldwide to host a Faldo Series event which since the first year has been extremely successful. The Club’s main aim has always been to support the growth of golf in Greece; one of the ways to reach this goal is by encouraging participation amongst young people

Following successful cooperation with the Faldo Series, it is the Board’s great pleasure to announce to the Club members, the visit of Sir Nick Faldo, the founder of the Series, in Athens between 23rd and 25th November, 2012. It will be a great honor for our Club, its members and all those involved in golf inGreece, to have the opportunity to welcome one of the greatest golfers ever in Athens.

As a professional, Sir Nick Faldo has won 6 Major Championships: 3 Masters (1989, 1990, 1996) and 3 Open Championships (1987, 1990, 1992) and ranked number 1 on the Official World Golf Rankings for 98 weeks. He is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame since 1997, and in 2009 he was knighted and given the title ‘Sir’ by the Queen of England for services to golf.

During Sir Nick’s visit, in cooperation with the Greek PGA, the Glyfada Golf Club is planning to organize the ‘Faldo Series Charity Golf Classic’ at the Glyfada golf course, on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November, 2012. The two day competition (1st day greensome, 2nd day four ball best ball formats) will be followed by lunch and a prize giving ceremony with a number of very significant prizes, such as tickets for the 2013 British Open and memorabilia items signed by Sir Nick Faldo. Sir Nick has kindly offered to present the prizes for the winners.

In addition, during these days, his personal coach Mr Keith Wood will give golf lessons for free to the participants at the Glyfada range.
