The Senior PGA Professional Championship is set to ride on the crest of wave after securing a three-year sponsorship deal with luxury cruise operator Silversea.

In a world of multi-national conglomerates, Silversea Cruises is owned and operated by one family — the Lefebvres of Rome.

This means genuine pride in ownership and a true Italian passion for embracing the best of life and a personal commitment to maintain the high standards of cruise excellence that have been the cornerstone of Silversea from the very beginning.

The company is due to expand its fleet to nine iconic cruise ships, which sail to more than 800 destinations on all seven continents including Sydney, Cape Town, the Galapagos Islands, Antarctica, the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas.

In addition to headline sponsorship of the Senior PGA Professional Championship, which tees off at Foxhills on 11-13 May, Silversea will also join the PGA’s Official Supplier programme.

“This is a partnership which unites two strong brands in a mutually beneficial agreement” said Lisa McAuley, commercial director UK & Ireland Silversea Cruises.

“The PGA is an association with a rich heritage which will add to the already extensive list of enhancements available to our guests by uniting two experts in their respective fields together. We are delighted to be working with the PGA and look forward to a prosperous future.”

PGA deputy chief executive Robert Maxfield said: “We are delighted to welcome Silversea as sponsor of the Senior PGA Professional Championship and PGA Official Supplier

“The championship has a rich heritage and is an important tournament on the PGA calendar. Silversea’s support will greatly enhance the championship and we look forward to working with Silversea for many years to come”

The tournament will return to Foxhills for the third successive year, where a field of close on 200 players will compete over the highly-rated Longcross and Bernard Hunt courses for the Bernard Hunt Trophy, named in honour of the former PGA Captain and Ryder Cup star, and a share of the increased £40,000 prize fund.

Scotland’s Fraser Mann (Carnoustie Golf Links) returns to Surrey as the defending champion. Among the players looking to capture the title are former European Senior Tour winners George Ryall (Players Club) and Kevin Spurgeon. Also teeing up are a clutch of former PGA Cup players including Gary Brown (Ganton) and tournament debutant Jeremy Robinson. Senior Tour card winner Brendan McGovern (Headfort) will also be in action.

Past winners of the championship, which was first competed for in 1995, include two-time Ryder Cup player Tommy Horton and European Senior Tour Order of Merit winner Paul Wesselingh.
