Rai wins rain-soaked Scottish Open with MacWet gloves

British golfer Aaron Rai clinched his second victory on the European Tour at last week’s ASI Scottish Open thanks to a final round 64 and a pair of MacWet gloves.

The 29-year-old from Wolverhampton secured the £920,000 first prize after braving wet and windy conditions for the first three days of the tournament at The Renaissance Club, which was held while Storm Alex raged across the UK, and then shooting a closing six-under-par round on a much calmer Sunday afternoon.

Rai wore his signature MacWet gloves on both hands throughout all four rounds, including Saturday’s stormy conditions, which fellow competitor Ian Poulter described as the worst weather he’d ever played in.

Glenmuir owns and distributes the MacWet golf glove collection, which uses a revolutionary technology to provide outstanding grip while maintaining feel and sensitivity in all weather conditions. They are sold in pairs which is unique in the golf industry and something Rai has used to his advantage since he was eight years old.

Commenting after his victory, Rai said: “The Macwet gloves were excellent in the wet and challenging conditions that we faced at the Scottish Open. Even in heavy rain, the gloves provided me with grip and feel in my hands which helped to enable me to compete.”

Mikhel Ruia, Glenmuir & MacWet Golf’s Managing Director, commented: “All of the Glenmuir MacWet team are extremely proud of Aaron’s victory, which is made that much more special given it was the Scottish Open here on home soil. Aaron’s win at The Renaissance Club is a mere 50 miles from our factory here in Lanark and is a further testament to the unrivalled performance of our MacWet premium rain golf glove, which was tested to its limits in heavy Scottish rain which Aaron battled all week.”

Sold in pairs, MacWet Micromesh Gloves and the MacWet Winter Thermal Gloves (£30) are available at www.glenmuir.com/macwet and from pro shops.
