Jon Rahm captured his maiden major title in ‘Epic’ fashion on Sunday, winning the US Open at Torrey Pines to reclaim the world No.1 spit while playing a full bag of Callaway clubs, including the brand’s new Epic Speed driver.
When Rahm joined Callaway Golf‘s tour staff earlier this year, the 26-year-old Spaniard said that one of the reasons he joined the brand was “to win majors” and he’s wasted no time in doing so.
After lifting the US Open trophy, Rahm paid tribute to his Callaway equipment, saying: “The new ball and the new irons allow me to hit certain shots that I simply wasn’t capable of before and it showed. I need to say a huge thank you to the team at Callaway.”
Rahm shot a 4-under par final round on Sunday and made two incredible birdie putts at 17 and 18 using his Odyssey White Hot OG Rossie S putter, which eventually led to a 1-shot victory.
Rahm has had the Epic Speed Driver in the bag since he joined Callaway in January. His model has a 45¼-inch shaft with 1” tipping. Epic drivers have now won seven times on Tour this year, including two major wins following Phil Mickelson’s historic victory at the PGA Championship.
Rahm plays Callaway’s Chrome Soft X Ball, and he says that in addition to the ball speeds he gets with the driver, it gives him an advantage with superior control from 150 yards and in.
Rahm was dressed in TravisMathew apparel throughout his week at the US Open, which proved perfect timing for the brand’s new online shop, went live on Friday (June 18).
