Pride Golf Tee, the world’s leading supplier of golf tees, has invested in junior grass roots golf for a sixth year in continuing its support of leading charity the Golf Foundation.

As Official Tee Supplier, this year PrideSports provides 2,000 packs containing a total of 20,000 high-quality golf tees so that children from all backgrounds and abilities can enjoy their first tee shots in ‘Golf Roots’ activity. Golf Roots is the nationally recognised junior grass roots programme that aims to reach one million youngsters a year by 2013.

The Golf Foundation also makes use of the tees for promotional purposes at European Tour events, the Golf Foundation Pro-Am and the charity’s Golf Roots Family Foursomes competitions. PrideSports has also donated packs of Softspikes cleats for use as promotional items at Foundation events.

Each of the 2,000 Pride Golf Tee packs contains ten Professional Tee System tees. These are tees of four different lengths, designed to be used with irons, fairway woods and different sizes of driver.

Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: “PrideSports has been right behind our aims for six years now and we are delighted that the company understands and supports the importance of our work. I think this relationship demonstrates how a major brand can really contribute to the grass roots junior golf cause.”

Mike added: “The Golf Foundation’s junior development programmes have proved to be highly successful in recent years but we need support and funding to continue to play a vital role in supporting the national golf partnerships of England, Scotland and Wales.”

Commenting on its partnership with the Golf Foundation, Louise Roe, PrideSports Business Unit Manager Europe, said: “As a company we are always keen to support such fantastic initiatives and the manner in which the Golf Foundation promotes the game of golf in this country is truly inspirational. As an industry we need to do everything possible to encourage youngsters from all walks of life to take up the game of golf.”

This support shows a growing interest in Golf Roots from companies in the golf industry. Earlier in the month, the Trustees of the British Golf Industry Association’s ‘Grow Golf’ initiative announced a grant of £40,000 to further increase the momentum of the Golf Roots programme in 2011, part of a three-year £120,000 grant package from Grow Golf for Golf Roots.
