Golf Digest Ireland is delighted to announce that the East Course at Powerscourt Golf Club will host The Golf Digest Volvo Open on Sunday 28th July, 2013.

This incredible venue is nestled perfectly into the contours of a mature and historic landscape, designed by former player and successful Walker Cup Captain Peter McEvoy.

The East Course is a testing and rewarding challenge for all levels of golfers and has true championship pedigree, having hosted the 1998 Irish PGA and the 2001 Irish Seniors Open.

Linton Walsh CEO Golf Digest Ireland said: “This is the first time we have staged a tournament in Powerscourt Golf Club and we are delighted to have signed off an agreement with Bernard and his team.

“We will be show casing the Golf Digest ‘Tour’ experience, along with the biggest prize fund in amateur golf. We are very much looking forward to an incredible tournament, on a truly great golf course.”

Bernard Gibbons, Powerscourt Golf Club’s General Manager said: “We are delighted to welcome the Golf Digest Volvo Open to Powerscourt Golf Club. Golf Digest plays a very important role in Irish golf and we look forward to working closely with them. This tournament offers a great opportunity for golfers to play the East Course at Powerscourt which has hosted both the PGA Championship and the European Senior Tour.”

Golf Digest Tournaments

There are 12 Open Tournaments in the 2013 schedule and all on Ireland’s finest golf courses, including the K Club, Carton House, Heritage Golf and Spa Resort, GalgormCastle, Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, Royal Dublin, Knightsbrook, Slieve Russell and Tralee Golf Club.

Each tournament offers the biggest prize fund in Irish amateur golf, with all category winners going through to the Golf Digest Volvo 36 hole Grand Final, at Carton House in November.

The winner will be crowned the Golf Digest Volvo Champion 2013 and receive the ‘Champions Cup’ – the biggest silver trophy in the history of Irish Sport. Standing at over 1m tall, it is 28.1cm bigger than the UEFA Champions League Trophy.

The Champion automatically becomes part of the Volvo Ireland team who will compete in the World Golf Challenge next year. 31 other international teams will battle it out at the Volvo Champions European Tour Event, where they will tee it up with a European Tour Professional with the aim of becoming Volvo World Golf Challenge Champion 2014.
