PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele has teamed up with the iron brand with more Major wins (61) than any other to play Wilson Staff FG Tour irons and utility clubs as part of a multi-year deal.
After extensive testing of Wilson Staff’s centenary FG Tour 100 blades and the FG Tour V4 irons, the former Texas Open champion will put a mixture of both models into his bag for tournament play. California-born Steele – who is competing on the PGA Tour for a fifth season running – will also put the Wilson Staff FG Tour V4 utility clubs into play for the first time at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi this week.
“I’m excited to put a combination of both FG Tour 100 blades and FG Tour V4 cavity backs in my bag,” said Steele, who becomes a Wilson Staff Advisory Member alongside Kevin Streelman, Ricky Barnes, recent BMW Masters champion Marcel Siem and three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington. “The FG Tour V4 utilities and long irons provide me with versatility and forgiveness I need on longer par fours, and the FG Tour 100 irons give me so much feel and workability closer to the scoring zone.”
Steele – who’ll help Wilson Staff with design input in his role as an Advisory Member – also revealed why he was first attracted to the famous brand. “The main draw for me to test Wilson Staff equipment came after I spotted the FG Tour 100 irons out here on Tour,” he said. “I’m a blade player, and for me, look is important, as is the feel at impact. These irons go above and beyond in both categories.”
The 31-year-old will also wear the Wilson Staff cap in Tour events and carry the brand’s Centennial Pro Tour bag.
“We’re delighted to have yet another Tour winner on board and look forward to working with a player of Brendan’s exceptional quality,” explained Doug Wright, Wilson Golf’s Commercial Director in Europe. “Brendan has proven his ability to perform on the big stage and therefore is a really good fit for the Wilson Staff brand.”
A frequent user of social media, Steele has already informed his 25,000 Twitter followers of his signing with Wilson Staff. He can be followed on Twitter through the account name of @Brendan_Steele.
