After two days of superbly entertaining golf, Eddie Pepperell has won this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship after a tense play-off with TP Tour Qualifier Jak Hamblett. Both finished with scores of -7, before Pepperell eventually triumphed by chipping in on the third play-off hole
Pepperell is a promising young English golfer who finished as runner-up in the Boys Amateur Championship in 2009 and qualified for his first Major at the 2013 US Open.
Closely behind were Paul Lawrie OBE and Gary Wolstenholme MBE, who impressed with excellent second rounds at Nailcote Hall but narrowly missed out on winning the title.
Earlier in the day, former Open Champion Lawrie shot an incredible -8 on his second round to tie for the lead with Senior Tour star Wolstenholme who also played extremely well. Former Ryder Cup Vice-Captain Peter Baker was also in the hunt at the closing stages.
The tournament was fiercely contested from the start but Pepperell managed to win the coveted title and take home the £25,000 prize fund. Hamblett was leading after the first day of the Championship, with a score of -3 and was in the hunt right to the closing stages. As the afternoon session continued on the second day, more players began to challenge for the lead but Pepperell eventually triumphed.
The day also saw holes in one for Gary Wolstenholme, Tommy Horton, DJ Russell and Raymond Russell. The leading teams was David Nelson partnered with former Masters champion Ian Woosnam OBE. Carl Mason won the prize for the Super Seniors contest winning £5,000 and Luke Turbutt won the Norma C Herd Silver Salver for leading amateur.
