Oscar Jacobson Ambassador, Richard Bland, might be at the wrong end of his career to call this a breakthrough year, but with a series of firsts and career highs, 2021 will certainly go down as the season to remember.
With six Top 5 finishes on the European / DP World Tour, two better than any other player, and eight Top 10’s, Bland reached a career best 11th on the Race to Dubai Rankings. These feats were topped off by his maiden Tour win at the Betfred British Masters, where Bland became the oldest first-time winner in his 478th start on Tour. He was subsequently given the honour of the first tee shot at the 149th Open Championship and was in strong contention for three rounds of the U.S. Open.
“Richard has had an incredible year and all of us at Oscar Jacobson couldn’t be happier for him,” commented Graeme Stevens, M.D. of O.J. licensee Worldwide Golf Brands. “We’ve worked with Richard for several years, and he’s always been a fantastic ambassador for the brand. He consistently represents the style and values that we share, so to see him have so many successes in 2021 has been an absolute pleasure.”
For his maiden win, Bland wore the CHAPS TOUR Polo in fiesta, DAVENPORT Trouser in light grey and WALDORF Sweater in Carbon Black. Bland demonstrated that with Oscar Jacobson style and performance are timeless. An emotional Bland commented on his win, “It’s what I’ve worked for, for 20 years. That’s what we all work for, to win out here and try and prove yourself. I’ve had a few close calls and I assume someone up there was looking down on me quite favourably today. It was just my day.
Bland will continue to wear Oscar Jacobson apparel in 2022 as the brand expands its reach into the U.S. market.
