Oce®nico in new partnership with European Tour

9.01am 15th May 2008 - Sponsorship & Events

Oce®nico Golf, the major player in the golf, property and leisure markets in Portugal and with a portfolio that includes Vilamoura’s ‘famous five’ championship courses has re-enforced its growing relationship with the European Tour by announcing a new 2008 Portugal Masters sponsorship deal.

The host venue will once again be the critically acclaimed Oce®nico Victoria golf course, where Steven Webster claimed victory in last year’s inaugural event.

“The Portugal Masters was a huge success last year and we are very pleased to be developing an even closer relationship with the event and The European Tour in general,” said Gerry Fagan, director and shareholder of the Oce®nico Group.

“The event attracts a strong field and we are confident we will have some of Europe’s finest players with us later this year. The European Tour provides a great platform for us to showcase the quality on offer in our Oce®nico Golf and Leisure portfolio coupled with the spectacle of Europe’s best golfer’s doing battle at one of our flagship venues,” he concluded.

The Portugal Masters will be played from 16th to 19th October. George O’Grady, chief executive of the European Tour said, “We are delighted to further develop our partnership with Oce®nico. Oce®nico has firmly established itself as a major player in the golf industry and the partnership with the European Tour will hopefully be a long and prosperous one. I know the players enjoyed the course and facilities at Vilamoura last year.”

Oce®nico’s comprehensive marketing activity around the Portugal Masters will include a special Pro-Am tournament to launch its two new Amendoeira courses designed by six-time Major winner and this year’s Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo and Irish legend Christy O’Connor Jnr. Oce®nico will also embark on a TV and online marketing campaign to maximise the association with the Portugal Masters and the European Tour.

The deal was announced at this week’s KPMG Golf Business Forum at the Ritz Carlton, Powerscourt, Ireland where Gerry Fagan and George O’Grady were both guest speakers.
