The inaugural Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship has 106 kids from 8 countries playing in what looks set to become a firm favourite on all junior golfers’ calendars.
The owners of seven golf courses in the Algarve, that includes host venue to the Portugal Masters and the recently opened and critically acclaimed Amendoeira resort, have invested in golf at every level. The unrivalled commitment to the sport has seen the world’s best visit the Oceânico Victoria course and this week sees the stars of tomorrow take part in the World Kids Golf Championship at the spectacular Amendoeira resort.
The initiative has been born from the team at Oceânico who have partnered with the Portuguese Golf Federation and continue to support golf at every level, from the elite to club from young to old.
“The Portuguese Golf Federation has been an integral part in advising on the set up of the course and outlining the pre requisites of entry. As with any other tournament of any standard, setting up the course is key and our team from Troon Golf is as experienced as any in setting up championship ready courses. We cannot wait to have the kids here and are all looking forward to the event.” commented Chris Stilwell CEO of Oceânico Golf.
The championship is sanctioned by the Portuguese Golf Federation and is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 16, with competition categories being determined by both age and gender. Kids aged 10 years and over will compete over 18 holes each day, while children under 10 years will play 9 holes on each of the three competition days.
