Nike Golf has further added to its stable of athletes by announcing the signing of former Walker Cup player Jordan Smith.

The 22-year-old – who plays out of Bowood Park Golf Club in Wiltshire – has agreed a multi-year, 14-club, head-to-toe deal with the iconic brand.

World Number One Rory McIlroy currently leads the stellar list of European players on the Nike Golf athlete roster, and Smith will also join the likes of Francesco Molinari, Paul Casey, Thorbjørn Olesen, Tommy Fleetwood, Oliver Fisher, Scott Jamieson and Ross Fisher when he puts Nike Golf product into play in the coming weeks.

‘Becoming a Nike Golf athlete, for me, is a recognition of the success I’ve already achieved so far in my career but also my future potential, and I know there is lots of hard work ahead to achieve what I want in the sport,’ said Smith.

Included in his new Nike Golf arsenal is the Vapor Pro driver, which blends three key technologies: Nike’s new FlyBeam reinforced Covert Cavity Back design, a re-engineered Compression Channel and FlexLoft 2. All of these are vital to the golf athlete in achieving the ultimate in hitting their window of distance, speed and launch conditions. Smith will also rely on the RZN Black golf ball for Tour-proven distance, accuracy and control.

Smith’s road to golfing stardom began later than most, having not picked up a golf club until the age of 13. However, after enrolling in the scholarship programme at Bowood, the Englishman progressed through the junior ranks and enjoyed a highly successful amateur career during which he won the prestigious Brabazon Trophy before going on to represent Great Britain and Ireland at the 2013 Walker Cup.

After recording impressive finishes at the Lyoness Open (T32) and M2M Russian Open (T38) on the European Tour, Smith decided to leave the amateur ranks behind and turned professional at the back end of 2014.

‘We are delighted to have Jordan on board at Nike Golf,’ said Robin Murray, Director of Sports Marketing, Nike Golf EMEA.

‘Not only have we been impressed by his amateur record, but we have also taken considerable notice of his dedication to the sport and we clearly see him as a modern golf athlete who will further highlight our growing presence on Tour,’ he added.

Smith is the second new player to commit to Nike Golf in 2015 after Frenchman Romain Wattel joined the roster in January.
