Titleist staff player Nelly Korda broke more records last week by becoming the first golfer to win a gold medal and major championship in the same year, after winning the Olympics Women’s Golf Competition.
Using 14 Titleist golf clubs, including the TSi1 driver, T100 irons and the Pro V1 ball, Korda posted four rounds in the 60s at Kasumigaseki Country Club’s East Course to win by one shot. Impressively, the 23-year-old world number one has now won three of her past four individual tournaments.
Over in Scotland, it was the turn of brand ambassador Grant Forrest, who trusted a full bag of Titleist golf clubs and the Pro V1 ball to capture his breakthrough victory on the European Tour. He birdied his final two holes in regulation play to claim victory at the Hero Open and become the first Scotsman since 2012 to win on home soil.
Forrest put Titleist’s new T200 2-iron in play for the first time last week, replacing his 718 T-MB after working with European Tour Rep Liam McDougall on Wednesday afternoon in St Andrews. According to McDougall, Forrest “loved the feel of the new T200 and was seeing more consistent flight with a better start line”.
At the event, Titleist was the field favourite in the ball (78%), driver (35%), iron (32%) and wedge (49%) categories.
On the PGA Tour, golf ball loyalist Abraham Ancer used a Pro V1 golf ball to claim his first PGA Tour and World Golf Championship victory at the WGC – FedEx St Jude Invitational.
Posting four rounds in the 60s, including a blemish-free 62 in the second round, Ancer posted a 16-under tournament total before going on to win on the second extra hole of a three-way play-off. After fulfilling a lifelong dream, Ancer can also celebrate moving up to 11th in the world ranking and 12th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Rounding out the brand’s success at TPC Southwind, Titleist was used by more players in the
Ball (70%), Driver (30%), Hybrid (44%), Utility Iron (43%), Iron (27%), Wedge (56%) and Putter (33%) categories.
Titleist also enjoyed success elsewhere on tour, as the winner of the Barracuda Championship, Erik van Rooyen, used a Pro V1 ball to claim his maiden PGA Tour victory, while Titleist brand ambassador Joshua Creel (Korn Ferry Tour) and George Coetzee (Sunshine Tour) used Titleist equipment through the bag to claim their respective victories. The winner of the US Women’s Amateur also had a Pro V1 ball in play for her victory at Westchester Country Club.
