Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the outstanding achievements of brand ambassadors Jon Rahm and Bernhard Langer with the gift of a pop-art inspired electric SUV from the German can manufacturer current range.
The specially commissioned designs, which were created by pop-art golf artist Christopher Obetz, were donated to the two stars of the game ahead of the first season’s major, The Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
In addition to the Mercedes Trophy, the global amateur tournament series which has around 60,000 participants worldwide, Mercedes-Benz is also partner to some of the biggest professional golf tournaments in the world and maintains a close relationship with current world no.3 Rahm, as well as two-time Masters champion Langer, who has been among the world’s elite for over 40 years.
“Golf is in my DNA, just like my art,” said Obetz. “My goal is to honour the past and take it into the future in new and surprising ways. That’s exactly what I’ve managed to do in my collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and the combination of two absolute greats in golf. Using a vehicle as a canvas was extremely special and I am very proud of what we have created together.”
Langer, 65, who won the Masters in 1985 and 1993, said: “The artwork is simply incredible. For me personally, it’s a special honour that not only surprises me, but also makes me very happy.”
Rahm, who won the US Open in 2020 and has had four top-10 finishes at the Masters in the last five years, added: “This is certainly a special week for all of us and the artwork on the vehicle adds excitement. I feel very lucky to be a part of this unique project alongside fellow Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Bernhard Langer.’
Bettina Fetzer, Head of Communication & Marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG, said: “With a very unique and creative EQS SUV, we honour two outstanding athletes and friends of our brand. We want to celebrate the achievements and victories of Bernhard and Jon and wish them all the best at Augusta.”
