Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup, made with the support of Europe’s Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, has been unveiled as the official wine of The 2014 Ryder Cup.
McGinley attended a special reception at Château Mouton Rothschild, hosted by Julien de Beaumarchais, son of the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, President of the Board, to reveal the wine. Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup was born from a meeting between McGinley and Hugues Lechanoine, Managing Director of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, with the ambition to create a limited edition of Mouton Cadet especially dedicated to the event.
Hugues Lechanoine said: “Our partnership makes a lot of sense. In the same way that The Ryder Cup brings together the best American and European players, we selected 12 of the finest vine parcels to create this unique wine. I would like to thank Paul McGinley for his personal support in the creation of the Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup.”
Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup was crafted for the event, and displays the prestigious Ryder Cup logo. A fine red wine, produced in limited quantity and with full roundness and fine tannins, it is made from a strict selection of parcels located mostly in the ‘Côtes de Bordeaux’ area of France, and dominated by the Merlot varietal.
For aging or for an immediate consumption, this unique wine offers an intense carmine red colour, a complex and elegant nose and a palate of ripe fruits, gently giving way to spices and notes of caramel and toast.
Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup will be the exclusive wine of The 2014 Ryder Cup, which will be held at The Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, from September 23-28. Visitors and VIP guests will be able to enjoy the limited edition wine in all catering venues created for the occasion.
McGinley said: “I have enjoyed collaborating with Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA to create this limited edition that carries The Ryder Cup spirit. Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup will enhance the world-class hospitality of this amazing competition.”
Mouton Cadet Selection Ryder Cup will also be available from the month of June in some of the best golf courses and fine wine shops around the world, including a July showcase in Harrods, London’s world famous department store.
Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has two distinct lines of business: Châteaux wines and branded wines. On the one hand, the company manages three estates in Pauillac, owned by Baroness Philippine and her children, including the famous Château Mouton Rothschild. On the other hand, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA also produces and distributes high quality branded wines, such as Mouton Cadet, the world’s leading Bordeaux AOC wine, Official Wine of The European Tour and The 2014 and 2018 Ryder Cups.
