The largest ever TGI Team Challenge leaderboard of 65 teams, played in glorious sunshine on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, was topped by the Lytham Green Drive team lead by PGA Professional Simon Wilson.

The event – sponsored by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, Ashworth, PowaKaddy and YOB Golf – saw more than 260 golfers descend on the five-star Cornelia Diamond Resort in Belek to take part in the 54-hole event, which demonstrated everything that is great about the golf industry.

Glorious weather, stunning facilities and amazing prizes from the sponsors greeted PGA Professionals and their amateur teams for an eventthat has become one of the biggest of its kind on the continent.

Played over the Sir Nick Faldo-designed Cornelia Golf Club, Lytham Green Drive Teaching Professional Simon Wilson and his amateur team of David Sully, Brian Gill and father Steve Wilson secured the trophy and top prize.

They scored a total of 243 points, in the best two from four Stableford event, to win by just two points from George Cowan’s Stocksfield Golf Club team of Kevin Honeybell, Eddie Paisley and Mark Brewis.

Having played in all but one of the Team Challenges over the years Wilson’s team has been among the prizes in the last two, but this is the first time they have secured the main prize.

“We worked exceptionally well together this week,” said Simon. “We feel we have the perfect combination with a single figure handicapper and two mid-teens and it certainly worked well for us this week.”

David added: “It has been another outstanding event, the organisation and the prizes supplied are once again amazing, which is why we come back year-after-year. We cannot wait to return next year to defend ourtitle.”

David Silvers, Managing Director of TaylorMade-adidas Golf for Europe, South Africa and Pacific presented the 22 prizes, kindly donated by all the sponsors, to various winners from the week.

He said: “These are exciting times for the golf industry and there are many great things we need to focus on and shout about – this event is one of those.

“The camaraderie I’ve seen between PGA Professionals and their customers has been outstanding – it’s great to see such a strong bond.”

Eddie Reid, TGI Golf Partnership Managing Director, added: “This event has grown substantially over the last six years from 23 teams to its current total of 65 and we can only see that continuing to increase.

“It gives PGA Professionals the perfect opportunity to bring customers out for a first-class experience at a luxury resort and continue to build strong relationships that can only benefit both the consumer and the retailer in the long run.”
