Lydia Ko continues ‘Cinderella story’ with AIG Women’s Open win

ECCO GOLF ambassador Lydia Ko completed her golden August this weekend in St Andrews, as she added the AIG Women’s Open to her trophy cabinet.

Ko, wearing ECCO GOLF Tray shoes, battled strong winds and a stellar leaderboard, shooting a three-under-par final round on Sunday to win her third major championship, and her first in over eight years, by a margin of two shots.

Ko’s win in Scotland completes an incredible month for the Kiwi, adding to the Olympic Gold medal she won in Paris just two weeks prior – where she secured her place in the LPGA Hall of Fame.

“It’s been a crazy past few weeks, something that was too good to be true happened, and I honestly didn’t think it could be any better, and here I am as the AIG Women’s Open Champion this week,” commented Ko.

“Obviously, being here at the Old Course at St Andrews, it makes it so much more special. I just loved being out there this week. Heading into the weekend I thought ‘how is it possible for me to win The Open?’ It is the most Cinderella-like story, these past two weeks.”

Timo Vollrath, Head of Global Marketing at ECCO GOLF, commented on the Ko’s incredible win at the Home of Golf: “We are incredibly proud of Lydia – to win an Olympic Gold medal and the Women’s Open just two weeks apart is an amazing achievement.

“It has been a real pleasure to work with Lyida over recent years, and to see her return to the winners circle in a major championship for the first time since 2016 is wonderful. We are looking forward to offering her our continued support going forward, and we are so pleased to have the chance to be even a small part of her career.”
