London Golf Club steps up race to beat prostate cancer with Big Golf Race Half Marathon

1.40pm 10th July 2023 - Sponsorship & Events

London Golf Club in Kent is teeing off its season of fundraising by hosting a 36-hole half-marathon golfing challenge supporting Prostate Cancer UK.

Taking place on September 12, the ‘Big Golf Race Half Marathon’ will see golfers play two rounds on The International, a par-72 course designed by Jack Nicklaus that has hosted the DP World Tour on numerous occasions including the Cazoo Classic and the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

Open to members and visitors, the fundraising event for London Golf Club’s chosen charity for 2023 costs £199 per person to enter, with a minimum of £125 being donated to Prostate Cancer UK to help fund life-saving research to beat the most common cancer in men.

Upon arrival, participants will receive breakfast before a two-tee start gets proceedings underway at 7.30am on The International. Guests will receive Prostate Cancer UK golf balls and tees, and a packed lunch for the course before they play 36 holes before a dinner within the golf club’s clubhouse.

Teams of up to four players can sign up for the ‘Big Golf Race Half Marathon’ via Golf Genius, and once signed up each team must set up a JustGiving page to receive donations.

London Golf Club’s chief executive, Stephen Follett, said: “We are delighted to be working with Prostate Cancer UK this year to support the charity through several fundraising events. Our Big Golf Race Marathon promises to be a great day and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved so we can help beat this dreadful disease that affects the lives of so many men and their families.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with around 475,000 living with and after the disease. Prostate Cancer UK was chosen by staff members at the London Golf Club as its selected charity for 2023.

Nicola Tallett, director of fundraising and supporter engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We’ve been blown away by the response to The Big Golf Race since it began in 2020, with thousands of golfers completing 36 or 72 holes in a day, raising over £2 million. We’re excited to be working with golf clubs across the UK, and The PGA, to support them in welcoming golfers who want to take on this epic challenge, and we hope that the London Golf Club is the first of many clubs backing The Big Golf Race.

“With the support of the London Golf Club and everyone who completes The Big Golf Race this year, we’re able to continue to fund research into better tests and treatment for prostate cancer and keep men in the game for longer.”
