The LIV Golf Invitational Series has signed a global rights deal for its first event with digital sports media company DAZN, expanding the Saudi Arabia-backed circuit’s broadcast distribution beyond owned and operated platforms.
According to SportBusiness, LIV Golf has also signed deals with Eleven Sports, Sky Deutschland, SPOTV and SuperSport.
The rights agreements were reportedly signed on the eve of the series’ inaugural tournament at the Centurion Club. LIV Golf previously claimed its events would get broadcast coverage in around 150 countries and territories.
DAZN has snapped up rights in the majority of its active markets, including German-speaking countries, Italy, Spain, Japan, the US and Canada.
DAZN is understood to have been offered free, non-exclusive global rights by LIV Golf to broadcast the series, which will feature seven more events in 2022 after the London edition, including five in the US, and one in Thailand and one in Saudi Arabia.
LIV Golf Invitational Series is also being live-streamed on YouTube, Facebook and at LivGolf.com. The first day of the tournament at Centurion had peak viewing figures of around 100,000 on YouTube.
