Lagardère Sports today announced it has signed a multiyear management and commercial representation agreement with English golfer Alfie Plant, for when he turns professional. Plant, who recently turned 25 and hails from Bexleyheath in South East London, has been confirmed in the ten-man GB&I team to face the USA in the 46th Walker Cup at the Los Angeles Country Club. He will then move to the professional ranks following the Walker Cup.
Plant’s amateur career to date has been impressive – as well as being a member of the England Elite squad he also secured notable wins at the Lytham Trophy in 2016 and then the European Amateur Championships in 2017. His European Amateur victory gained him entry into the Open Championships at Birkdale where he went on to win the coveted Silver Medal as the highest finishing amateur.
Having recently launched a player management offering in Europe, Lagardère Sports is delighted to announce Plant as a key signing. Jamie Salmon, Head of European Golf, Lagardère Sports, said: “We’re thrilled to announce Alfie as one of our first major signings in Europe and look forward to working closely with him in what is a very exciting time in his career. We’ve been really impressed with everything about Alfie both on and off the course, and the way he handled the attention and media spotlight at the Open was a glowing testament to his character.”
Plant added: “I’m really pleased to be joining Lagardère Sports – everything felt right about the company given its experience and set up globally. They have a great team of people and I’m really excited about the next chapter for Team Alfie.”
