India is set to become the latest and the 25th stop on the 2007 Ladies European Tour (LET) schedule when the country plays host to the Indian Ladies Masters in December.

Co-sanctioned by the LET, the Women’s Golf Association of India and the Indian Golf Union, the inaugural event, carrying a prize purse of €200,000, will be promoted and organised by ‘golf in DUBAI‘ from December 5 to 8, 2007 at a venue soon to be announced.

“The Ladies European Tour is delighted to be visiting India for the first time in its history,” said Alexandra Armas, the LET’s executive director while announcing the landmark event.

“This new tournament consolidates the LET’s growth internationally and provides further evidence of the attention that our sport is attracting worldwide,” she said. “I would like to thank ‘golf in DUBAI‘ for promoting this event — the 26th on the LET schedule — on behalf of the Ladies European Tour. This follows a very successful inaugural Dubai Ladies Masters last year and we are looking forward to collaborating with them once more on this fantastic new event in India.”

“I am quite confident the standards of excellence set by golf in DUBAI during the inaugural Dubai Ladies Masters will echo in India as well and we are looking forward to working with them closely,” Armas added.

The Women’s Golf Association of India, along with the Indian Golf Union, is “proud and privileged” to be associated with the Indian Ladies Masters.

“The Indian Ladies Masters will usher in a new era in building stronger bonds between golfing fraternities across the different continents of the world,” commented Champika Sayal, the association’s secretary-general. “This fully sanctioned leg of the Ladies European Tour will attract not only the best lady golfers from different parts of the world, but along with ‘golf in DUBAI‘ the joint endeavour will cement a solid path for promoting and developing both the UAE and India as golf-friendly destinations.”

‘golf in DUBAI‘ was equally excited to be part of the ground-breaking event in Indian. “The growth of the Indian economy has coincided with the emergence of golf as a major sport in the country,” said Mohamed Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of ‘golf in DUBAI.‘

“And this Indian Ladies Masters offers a huge potential to provide a major boost to ladies golf not only in India, but in Asia as a whole,” he said, adding: “I am absolutely positive that the event will attract a first class field and provide a great opportunity for European Tour players to explore Incredible India.”

The tournament comes as part of ‘golf in DUBAI’s ambitious drive to expose the Emirate’s rapidly-growing golfing portfolio of world-class courses on the global stage.

“It is one of our objectives to organise tournaments, locally or internationally, on behalf of our partners to try and promote Dubai as one of the leading golf destinations in the world,” said Buamaim said. “And the Indian Ladies Masters is a reflection on our team efforts to achieve this common goal.”

‘golf in DUBAI‘ are also promoting and organising the Indian Masters to be held at the Delhi Golf Club from February 7 to 10, 2008. Boasting a prize-fund of $2.5 million, the European Tour event, sanctioned by Indian Golf Union, is the richest golfing event ever to be held in India.

‘golf in DUBAI’ is backed by Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the main partner and National Bank of Dubai, Emaar, Jumeirah Hotels, Emirates airline, BMW, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Gulf News, Omega and CNN as partners in its drive to showcase the emirate’s vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
