The Austrian town of Kitzbühel, a destination synonymous with world-class international skiing events, is set to welcome a new highlight to its prestigious sporting calendar with the staging of the DP World Tour’s Austrian Alpine Open next month.
From 28 to 31 May, Europe’s top tier men’s professional tour will make its first appearance at the renowned Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith. Located in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, the course previously hosted the HotelPlanner Tour in 2003.
The Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol will be the highest profile golf tournament that Austria has ever hosted, with the event expected to attract a strong field of the world’s top golfing talent.
Among those bidding for a share of the generous prize fund will be home-bred hero Sepp Straka. The 32-year-old made history in 2022 when he became the first Austrian to win on the PGA TOUR and he has since made two appearances for Europe in the Ryder Cup, helping his team to victory in Rome in 2023 and in New York last October.
Straka has won three further times in the US since his maiden victory, including twice in 2025 at The American Express and Truist Championship, and will arrive at his home open in good form, following a top-10 finish at The Players Championship and tied second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
“I’m very excited to return to Austria to play in my national open again,” said Straka, who is currently ranked 13th in the world. “It was great to see the event back on the DP World Tour last year, and I’m really pleased that I’m able to include the event in my schedule for 2026.
“It has been a number of years since I last had the chance to play in front of home crowds, and a lot has happened in that time. It’ll be a great opportunity to celebrate that success in front of family, friends and fans, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Joining Straka is Bernd Wiesberger, an eight-time DP World Tour winner and Austria’s first Ryder Cup player, further strengthening the national representation at the event. Rising star Maximilian Steinlechner, a tour newcomer and ambassador for Golf in Tirol, will also compete. Following his impressive third-place finish on the 2025 HotelPlanner Tour, Steinlechner is considered one of Austria’s most promising talents heading into the 2026 DP World Tour season.

In preparation for tournament, the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith course has undergone extensive renovation, including eight new tees and redesigned bunkering, while a state-of-the-art practice facility ensure the venue meets the highest standards of the DP World Tour. These improvements will not only enhance the facilities for those competing at the Austrian Alpine Open, but also enhance the long-term experience for members and green fee guests alike.
