The golf industry showed their support for junior golf last week by taking part in the British Golf Industry Association/Golf Foundation golf day held at Woburn Golf and Country Club. The event, which was attended by a large number of golf equipment
manufacturers, proved to be a huge success. Over £19,000 was raised for the Golf Foundation to help develop and promote junior golf throughout the British Isles.
The golf was played on the impressive Marquess course followed by lunch, a raffle and an auction. Dunlop Slazenger, Ping Europe, Titleist Footjoy, Callaway and Glenmuir, amongst others, all commented on how much they enjoyed playing at Woburn Golf and Country Club.
An array of auction and raffle prizes including Tour and Ryder Cup pictures and scorecards, from Sam Torrance, Colin Montgomerie and Ernie Els, as well as a week for two in Atalaya Park meant that a tremendous amount of money was raised for the Golf Foundation.
Both Bob Smith, chairman of the BGIA and Mike Round, Golf Foundation chief executive both agreed that it was a superb event. In view of its success, it is hoped that it will become a permanent fixture in the golfing calendar for the industry.
