The Ladies European Tour Rookie Class of 2015 gathered together at the impressive Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort and Spa for the inaugural Rookie Orientation Days on January 29-31. Players from across the globe travelled to Spain to hear about the organisation’s ‘More than a Tour’ vision, life as a touring professional and the inner workings of the LET.
Mike Round, Director of Development and Membership, commented: “We believe that it’s really important to give Rookies the right information and support at the start of the year so that their introduction to Tour life is as trouble-free as possible.
“A key element of our development strategy is ‘LET’s Get Ready,’ which is designed to offer help to the Rookies in their first season on Tour. We put together an all-you-need-to-know programme that covered a range of essential administrative issues, but also made them aware of our vision for the future of the organisation and the role they can play to help to turn that vision into reality. The feedback we’ve had from the Rookies has been extremely positive we hope that this will become an annual event.”
Speaking at the end of the training sessions, LET Rookie Anne van Dam from Holland said: “The Rookie Orientation gave me a lot of information that will be useful for me as I head into the first few events and will help to get my season off to a good start. It was good to hear the Members’ Regulations presentation so I now know what to do and what not to do.”
Fellow LET Rookie Emma Westin from Sweden echoed Anne’s view and added: “Everything we have learned about Member’s Regulations, communications, member’s education and sponsor and promoter activities has been very useful and it is good to understand the big picture before coming into the 2015 season. We could see from the presentations the importance of the LET’s new vision and values and it is motivating to be part of the LET’s team that’s working together to reach out to the fans.”
One of the highlights of the event was a motivational speech given by former LET Professional and highly respected coach, Marta Figueras-Dotti. Marta offered words of wisdom based on her knowledge and experiences which captivated the Rookies. She certainly had an effect on Anne, who said: “Marta’s speech was an inspiration and it was good to hear her personal stories and learn from such an experienced individual. She emphasised the importance of the love of the game, the passion for golf and staying focused.”
The Orientation Days were made possible thanks to the support offered to the LET by the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort and Spa. It proved to be the perfect venue for what was an important event in the LET’s history.
The 2015 LET season launches with the RACV Ladies Masters in Queensland, Australia, on 12-15 February.
