Golfers to Take On World Long Drive Champ at The Belfry

Club golfers will have the chance to take on world long drive champion from 2010, Joe Miller, when the big-hitting supremo visits The Belfry near Sutton Coldfield on Bank Holiday Monday (27 August).

Visitors to the four-time Ryder Cup venue will be able to watch the RE/MAX Long Drive Champion 2010 attempt to drive The Brabazon course’s famous 18th hole at 9am, before he takes on the public in a Callaway Long Drive challenge. As part of a competition run by Today’s Golfer magazine on www.todaysgolfer.co.uk, the challenge will see selected players taking on Miller on the  ‘signature’ 10th hole, a hole that has seen so many famous golfing moments, from the first tee shot to hit the green by Seve Ballesteros in 1978 to the first ace by Welsh amateur Dan O’Connor in March this year.

The Callaway Ambassador will then also host a Long Drive Clinic for one hour in The Belfry’s PGA National Golf Academy, where golfers of all abilities will learn the technical secrets behind long driving.

The Belfry’s PGA National Golf Academy will be turned over exclusively for the Today’s Golfer Demo Day, which commences at 10am with a two-hour clinic and Q&A with European Tour winner Graeme Storm. Golfers will also have the chance to try out the very latest clubs free of charge and have custom-fit sessions withPING, Callaway, TaylorMade, Mizuno, Cobra, Nike and Wilson Staff.

A genuine Tour experience will also be on offer during the day at the PING Tour truck outside the Academy – giving visitors the chance to see the place where a technician custom fits clubs for star players like Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jiménez.

“The TG Demo Day was a big success when it made its debut at The Belfry last year and it promises to be even bigger this time around,” said Today’s Golfer senior equipment editor Jon Greathead. “As well as trying out the latest clubs from the very best manufacturers for free, there’s a one-off chance to get up close to some real stars at a venue that has something for everyone.”

Every visitor who books their place will be able to enter long drive, closest to the pin and putting competitions inside the Academy. They’ll receive a free Academy membership worth £50, including a discount on balls for a year.

Golfers can also take up an exclusive ‘Stay & Play’ deal that involves playing the world-famous Brabazon course on the Sunday, enjoying an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast, plus another round of golf on The Derby course on the Monday afternoon following the Demo Day – all for £160.

Limited spaces are still available for golfers to book individual 30-minute custom-fit slots at the Demo Day or take up an exclusive ‘Stay & Play’ package by calling 0300 500 0401 and quoting ‘TG Demo Day’.
