A business owner from Edinburgh has revealed his shock after finding out he will be teeing it up alongside legends from the game after winning the Golf Lottery’s ‘Ultimate Indian Ocean Golfing Experience’.

Stuart Wardell, 57, has won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to play in a pro-am event held as part of the Legends Tour MCB Tour Championship at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius in December.

The print company owner will compete with heroes of the game in front of crowds at the event run before the Legends Tour season finale, and will enjoy access to practice facilities, the locker room and prizegiving ceremonies.

Paul Lawrie is among a star-studded line-up competing at the event as the 2022 Legends Tour Order of Merit winner is crowned.

As part of the prize – the recently launched Golf Lottery’s biggest prize to date – Wardell, a six handicapper, will be able to bring a friend to play in the event, travel in style with business-class flights, and enjoy luxurious five-star accommodation at the Constance Belle Mare Plage.

Wardell, who plays the Golf Lottery for just £1 a week, said: “You enter these things and forget about them and the general reaction from everyone I told was, ‘It’s a con, don’t give them your bank details’. It was a bit of a shock, but I can’t wait.”

A member at Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club just outside of Edinburgh, Wardell will be playing in front of crowds for the first time in the Indian Ocean. “I’m not looking forward to that for sure. Hopefully it’s a wide first fairway and I hope the crowd aren’t nearby,” he joked.

Devised by Ryan Howsam – majority owner of the Legends Tour and chairman of the Staysure Group – the Golf Lottery’s primary aim is to raise funds for good causes and amazing charity partners. Simple and easy to play, once signed up for £5 per calendar month or an annual subscription with a direct debit of £52 per year, players have the chance to win some fantastic weekly prizes.

Keith Mitchell, managing director of the Golf Lottery, said: “Congratulations to Stuart Wardell on his win. We wish him plenty of success in Mauritius and encourage anyone to sign up to the Golf Lottery to be in with a chance of following in his footsteps.”

“What makes the Golf Lottery so special is that it fulfils the need to bring new revenue and support to UK charities, while also giving players the chance to win fantastic prizes. For the consumer, the Golf Lottery is an exciting platform that will assist with meeting their charitable donations where they can support those close to their heart.”
