Golf Foundation Pro-Am celebrates 21st

12.05am 5th September 2007 - Sponsorship & Events

Business leaders and sports lovers have signed up to support grass roots junior golf. The annual Golf Foundation Pro-Am takes place on 8th October and a strong field is assembling to compete at The Buckinghamshire.

This will be the 21st staging of the popular golf day, which is supported by the PGA European Tour. The Golf Foundation – a charity that is committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf – raises money through the event to fund its national initiatives that make golf more accessible to children and offer them a good start in the game.

Team spaces for the Pro-Am were being reserved at the time of writing but there were still a few available for those who want to bring along their guests for the competition.

More than 20 teams will play in the event (three amateurs join a PGA European Tour professional for each team) at The Buckinghamshire, one of the south’s most prestigious and welcoming golfing venues. A Champagne breakfast, on-course challenges for top prizes, a charity auction and dinner are all added attractions.

Mike Round, Golf Foundation Chief Executive, said, “Supported as it is by the PGA European Tour and held at the excellent venue of The Buckinghamshire, the Golf Foundation Pro-Am is a very special occasion for all involved.

“Quite apart from the pleasure it gives everyone taking part on the day, it demonstrates how much people care about junior golf at the grass roots level and is perhaps a reflection of how our inclusive work with youngsters from all backgrounds in schools and golf clubs is being received.”

First held in 1986, the Golf Foundation Pro-Am has raised thousands of pounds for grass roots junior golf. This year’s revenue will go towards the delivery of Golf Foundation initiatives in schools and community projects, which all support the work of the national golf partnerships to increase the number of people taking up golf and staying in the sport.
