Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship has added appeal

7.39am 4th March 2009 - Sponsorship & Events

The top 10 finishers in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship final at Dundonald Links in June will gain exemption from regional qualifying for the 2010 Open and be fast-tracked to Final Local Qualifying.

And with the ‘home of golf‘ gearing itself up for a major anniversary celebration, Glenmuir marketing director, Andy Bough, believes competing PGA Professionals will appreciate the added prestige that this brings to the Championship.

“For the top 10 finishers to be just one step away from the 150th Open Championship certainly adds a terrific incentive to what is already a superbly-supported event,” said Bough.

“We made improvements to the PGA Professional Championship last year, which were warmly received, and we have built on them for 2009 by staging qualifying events at some of the very best courses in the UK and Ireland. This, added to the £78,000 prize fund, makes the championship the flagship tournament for PGA Professionals and we are delighted to be supporting it.”

One of Europes leading golf apparel brands, Glenmuir has sponsored the event for 17 years, and is its longest-running sponsor. As part of the sponsorship agreement, the winner of each regional qualifier wins £250 while the leading Glenmuir account holder receives a £500 credit voucher if they are wearing Glenmuir clothing on the day.

Added Bough,: “As a Scottish company we‘re particularly pleased to be staging the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship final in Ayrshire and this is only the sixth time in the 36-year history of the event that Scotland has hosted the final.”

As well as receiving regional qualifying exemption for The Open in 2010, the top five finishers in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship will automatically represent Great Britain & Ireland in the PGA Cup at the Carrick at Loch Lomond in September – the club professionals‘ equivalent to the Ryder Cup.
