The English Golf Union, in association with Marsh Sports Group together with Royal & SunAlliance, has announced the fourth year of grant aid aimed at assisting golf clubs coach more young people in the game of golf by helping fund their coaching sessions.
Commenting on the scheme, Peter Roxburgh of Marsh said “We are delighted that so many junior golfers have benefited from the coaching programme in the first three years and very much hope that the tremendous support, through the golf clubs, will continue into the fourth and fifth years of this sponsorship.”
The sponsorship of the programme by Marsh Sports Group in partnership with Royal & SunAlliance will give a welcome boost to the England Junior Golf Partnership’s plans for junior golf in England. The initiative will be delivered by the EGU to encourage golf clubs to develop their junior membership and help deliver a structured junior club coaching policy.
The proposal again offers a grant of £100.00 towards junior club coaching and golf clubs applying have to invest another £100.00 making a total of £200.00. This will give boys and girls 10 free one-hour coaching sessions delivered by PGA professional coaches.
All golf clubs in England affiliated to the EGU have been invited to apply for the grant on a first come, first served basis and the scheme aims to reach young golfers at 600 golf clubs in year 4. All golf club junior organisers will be notified with the information this month and asked to promote the initiative within their clubs. The information can also be found on the EGU junior website www.englishgolfunion.org/juniorgolf and application forms are available to download.
In the first 3 years of the scheme £114,200 has been distributed in grant aid and over 900 golf clubs have benefited. Approximately 30,000 boys and girls have had the opportunity to receive sustainable coaching by a PGA Professional as a result of the initiative at their club.
