A host of the game’s greatest golfers will come together for the 2018 Berenberg Gary Player Invitational at Wentworth Club, London, on 23 July, as the final field is officially confirmed.
The charitable event, forming part of the Gary Player Invitational global series, will take place the day after The Open concludes at Carnoustie, Scotland, and will be played on the Edinburgh Course, designed by the legendary South African golfer.
This year’s invitee list, led by Berenberg golf ambassador Gary Player includes Tom Watson, Martin Kaymer, Branden Grace, Fred Couples, Colin Montgomerie, Mark O’Meara, Ernie Els, Thomas Björn, Padraig Harrington, Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, Tom Lehman, Hale Irwin, Andy Sullivan, Haydn Porteous and Lucas Bjerregaard from the men’s game.
From the women’s game: Gemma Dryburgh, Nicole Hage, Victoria Kiser, Joanna Klatten, Alexandra O’Laughlin, Annabel Dimmock, Klara Spilková, Meghan MacLaren, Caroline Martens, Henni Goya, Amy Boulden, Emma Cabrera-Bello, Olivia Cowan, and Georgia Hall.
First-time participant and four-time Major winner, Ernie Els, commented: “Charitable funds raised by the Gary Player Invitational global series have helped better the lives of so many people and I’m thrilled to be able to support Gary’s philanthropic work and attend my first Gary Player Invitational event at Wentworth, a venue that is also close to my heart.”
The Player Foundation continues to raise funds globally – it has raised more than $64 million for children’s causes – and continues to strive towards an ultimate target of raising $100 million.
The London leg of the Gary Player Invitational series, staged with support from title sponsor Berenberg, SAP, Rolex, and other partners, sits alongside similar events staged in the UAE, Japan, USA, China and South Africa.
