The 16th green on the Torrance course has been dyed red to celebrate ‘Red Nose Day’.
Otherwise known as ‘Comic Relief’, we should explain, for the benefit of GBN.com readers not resident in the UK, that Red Nose Day is the annual event when citizens are encouraged to ‘Do Something Funny for Money’ and help raise funds for some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the UK and around the world.
Jason King, Fairmont St Andrews director of golf, said: “Fairmont St Andrews is always keen to support charities whenever possible and we wanted to do our bit for Comic Relief.
“Finding a red green waiting for them when they tee off will certainly make golfers’ visits a bit different and give them something to talk about.
“It’s different and should grab people’s attention and hopefully inspire them to help us raise funds for a great cause.”
Fairmont St Andrews will be donating 10 per cent of all green fees taken on its Torrance course on Red Nose Day (today, Friday, 18th March) to Comic Relief.
Its support for Comic Relief comes on the back of Fairmont St Andrews announcing a 38 per cent discount on all charity fundraising golf days held at the resort as part of its ongoing desire to help good causes.
Fairmont St Andrews boasts two 18-hole championship golf courses – the Torrance and the Kittocks – both of which were featured in Golfweek’s latest Top 40 UK & Ireland Modern Courses.
The courses recently underwent extensive renovation and improvement as part of a £17m redevelopment of the resort which also included significant enhancements to the five-star hotel and luxurious spa complex.
