The English Golf Union has received huge success with its new coaching scheme aimed at introducing more people to the game of golf. The initiative is sponsored by leading equipment manufacturer Prosimmon and has also received Sportsmatch funding.

A Free Coaching for Beginners promotion at Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Nottinghamshire, Hoebridge Golf Centre, Surrey and Thornbury Golf Centre, Gloucestershire was massively oversubscribed. The event, held in conjunction with Burhill Golf Centres, attracted well in excess of 60 participants per venue.

The English Golf Union invests regularly in the development of golf at grass roots level. Paul Baxter, EGU Secretary states, “Coaching is a vital ingredient to the enjoyment of the game. This initiative will introduce more people into the game, help their understanding of the basic skills and encourage a long term interest in golf.”

The English Golf Union is planning to launch the scheme nation wide at venues around England throughout the year. Free Golf Coaching for Beginners is conducted by fully qualified professional coaches with group lessons lasting for one hour. Golf clubs and practice balls are provided. People are simply asked to phone up and book a time.
