DMC has signed terms with International Sports Management (ISM) to endorse its CaddyAid GPS system for an undisclosed fee.
Ryder Cup wildcard Darren Clarke’s caddy Billy Foster will be endorsing CaddyAid, after first seeing it at this year’s BMW Championship at Wentworth. “Chubby insisted that I looked at this fantastic new distance guide, claiming it was without doubt the best GPS guide he had ever seen, and he wasn’t wrong. David Morris (managing director of DMC) showed me CaddyAid, and how it all worked, I was amazed at how accurate it was and how easy it was to use” said Billy.
“I know a lot of the caddies used it during practice rounds at the 2006 Open Championship, creating so much enthusiasm in the locker room. For us [caddies] getting the distance right is absolutely everything, and there is no way I would risk using something that didn’t work. This product is so good, it could put me out of a job” laughed Foster, who has caddied for Darren Clarke over many years, picking up some of the biggest trophies in golf, whilst also caddying for players such as Tiger Woods during the Presidents Cup when the world’s number one regular caddy, Steve Williams was unavailable.
CaddyAid uses specialist software built into a handheld computer, manufactured by DMC’s official hardware partner Fujitsu Siemens. By looking at the colour screen, the golfer sees an aerial photograph of the hole, and an automatic readout showing measurements to anywhere on the hole.
For the European Tour, DMC will in most cases fly the course a week before the event, ensuring that all hospitality and other temporary structures such as grandstands are shown for the players and caddies.
“Unlike other GPS products, CaddyAid can tell the player exactly how far it is to ANY blade of grass on the hole, and this is why we are quickly being seen as the best golf GPS system in the world,” said David Morris. “We also show helicopter flyover movies of the hole within CaddyAid, so the player gets to see the entire hole in flight before they play it, much in the same way you see low level flyovers on SKY and BBC. We are delighted to have Billy and ISM on board, and know there are some great opportunities ahead during the forthcoming year.”
“Besides the accuracy of the distance guide, CaddyAid also speeds up play, which for anybody has to be a good thing, whether it be at the local pay and play, a European Tour event, or even a Major” said Chubby Chandler of ISM. “We know DMC are having talks with the R&A in November about CaddyAid, and we hope they see the qualities a product like this can offer, especially in relation to the speeding up of play.”
DMC officially launched CaddyAid at last weekend’s Golf Europe Show in Munich and they believe distributors will be placed around Europe pre Christmas.
