Ryder Cup Europe has announced BMW as an Official Partner and Official Car to The 2010 Ryder Cup, being staged at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales, from 1-3 October 2010.
The announcement elevates BMW from Official Sponsor to Partner status for the next ‘home’ Ryder Cup following BMW’s successful involvement with The Ryder Cup at The K Club in 2006, when Ian Woosnam’s European Team defeated the United States with a record-equalling nine-point victory.
The agreement with Ryder Cup Europe strengthens BMW’s continuing global commitment to the game of golf signified by its partnership with The European Tour through its flagship event, last week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, the BMW International Open at Golfclub Mà¼nchen Eichenried, Germany, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, and the BMW Asian Open at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club in China.
BMW is also the Official Car of The European Tour and is the title partner of the BMW Championship at Bellerive CC, part of the US PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup play-off series
“BMW is proud to be an Official Partner and the Official Car of The 2010 Ryder Cup and is delighted to be associated with one of the world’s great sporting contests,” said Ian Robertson, member of the board of management, sales and marketing BMW Group.
.
“We are a performance-orientated and innovative brand so there is no better fit than with a sport that continually sets new standards. The Ryder Cup is always an eagerly anticipated event and we greatly look forward to our involvement at The Celtic Manor Resort.”
Richard Hills, Ryder Cup director, said, “Ryder Cup Europe is delighted to welcome BMW as an Official Partner to The 2010 Ryder Cup. The change in status to Partner is a reflection of the success of BMW’s involvement at The K Club in 2006 and reinforces the global partnership between The European Tour and BMW. It also ensures that we will once again be provided with a world class courtesy car operation to meet the needs and requirements of the Teams and Official Parties during the event.”
The 2010 Ryder Cup takes place at The Celtic Manor Resort from October 1-3 on The Twenty Ten Course, the first course to be specifically designed for The Ryder Cup.
