Baker Crowned Staysure PGA Seniors Champion 2023

Peter Baker is the 2023 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner by four-shots at Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.

Baker began his final round alongside 2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell and 2010 BMW PGA Championship winner Simon Khan with a four-shot lead. A steady level par opening nine holes in true links conditions would see Baker make the turn with a five-shot lead before making birdies on to win by six strokes.

“It’s very special to win an event like this, with all the names on this trophy it goes back a long way so to get my name on the trophy means a lot and I’m delighted. I put myself in a great position after the first three days,” he said. “Today was really tough and the conditions were a lot harder, so it was a real battle for me to get it over the line but fortunately I have.”

With Baker capturing his third title of the 2023 season, he now sits on top of the MCB Road to Mauritius standings after a record-breaking week at the flagship event.

The tour rolls onto Golf Club de Saint-Cloud for the WCM Legends Open de France from 7th to 9th September.

The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Senior Tour and most recently the Staysure Tour, is the men’s professional golf Tour for members aged 50 and older. Five years after the first edition of The Senior Open, won by Neil Coles in 1987, more than 60 professionals called for a formally structured Tour, which was then created in 1992. Many of the pioneering champions who played on the European Tour during the 1970s, 80s and 90s make up the Legends Tour’s active membership.

Former Ryder Cup Captains Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam are among the winners of the John Jacobs Trophy, which is awarded to the golfer who finishes first on the Legends Tour Order of Merit presented by Rolex each season.

United Kingdom-based insurance company Staysure became the first ever title sponsor of the European Senior Tour on January 2, 2018 at the start of the Tour’s 27th season. In September 2020, Ryan Howsam, Staysure Group CEO, acquired a majority equity share in the Tour in a ground-breaking joint venture with the European Tour.

The Legends Tour supports the European Tour in ‘Driving Golf Further’ through the guiding principles of being innovative, inclusive and global.
