Another boost for golf in Wales

Cardiff-based Firstplus Financial Group is to invest over £170,000 in a series of events that are a direct result of the Ryder Cup being held in Wales in 2010. Firstplus Financial Group was founded in Cardiff in April 1997. The company now has over 70,000 customers and employs a team of 230 staff.
The Vale Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort Resort announced earlier this month that South Wales would have its first taste of both Challenge and Seniors Tour golf when it hosts The Ryder Cup Wales Challenge this May and again in 2007, with the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open sandwiched in between in 2006.
“We‘re delighted to be associated with Ryder Cup Wales,” said Firstplus chief executive Jeremy Masding. “It reinforces our position as a leading Welsh company that is actively involved in the local community and committed to helping to build on Wales‘ growing reputation across the UK and abroad.
“This also gives us the opportunity to leverage our brand and increase our profile both locally and nationally. We operate in an increasingly competitive industry; it’s important to us to differentiate ourselves and to stand out from our competitors.”
Jeremy Masding added, “Team Wales, a private/public sector partnership, was the driving force behind the Ryder Cup coming to Newport in 2010. Through establishing such tournaments as this one, Ryder Cup Wales is also securing the long-term future of the game in Wales by helping young players compete on an international stage.”
Ryder Cup Wales Board member Gareth John said, “This generous package once again demonstrates how supportive Welsh business is of our objectives in making Wales a world leader in terms of sporting events, facilities and performance potential.”
The Vale Resort marketing director Paul Beddoe said, “Ryder Cup Wales is helping us put on world class sporting events which will be covered by global television. This is also an example of synergy between the host venue and a major Welsh business investing in sport.”
