Almerimar celebrates successful staging of European Legends Cup

3.42pm 8th October 2024 - Sponsorship & Events

Golf Almerimar‘s first taste of hosting a top-flight professional tournament proved a memorable one, with the Spanish resort providing the stage for a battle royale between two titans of the Legends Tour in Adilson Da Silva and Peter Baker.

And it was the Brazilian, Da Silva, current leader of the Legends Tour Order of Merit, who walked away with the spoils after beating his English rival in a play-off for the inaugural European Legends Cup after both players tied on nine-under-par for 54 holes.

The tournament attracted a strong field of 60 players, including two-time Masters champion José Maria Olazbal, former US Open champion Michael Campbell, and former Open champion Paul Lawrie. And it was ‘Ollie’ who wowed the Spanish crowds during the final round with a closing 67 featuring seven birdies.

The tournament was preceded by two days of Pro-Ams, where over 100 amateur golfers got the chance to tee it up alongside their heroes in competition, while a further 28 amateurs had the chance to caddie for their professional partners in what was an unforgettable week of golfing action and top class hospitality.

Organised by JGolf, the tournament exceeded the expectations of the 60 professionals who attended the first edition of the European Legends Cup, a tournament supported by Almerimar Golf Resort, Legends Tour, Staysure, Real Federación Andaluza de Golf, Ayuntamiento de El Ejido, Bodegas Juan Gil, Titleist, Aquadeus and TOA Shoes.
