The BMW PGA Championship has earned a glittering reputation for delivering a fusion of fun, celebrity-spotting and world class golf as the flagship event of The European Tour at Wentworth Club.
Now the 2014 edition of the event – the tenth in succession under the partnership between BMW, The European Tour and Wentworth Club, and the 60th PGA Championship stretching back to 1955 – is ready to welcome back the world’s leading players from May 22-25.
Advance tickets for next year, along with Hospitality packages, are on sale now and represent outstanding value for money, especially if purchased as part of the Championship’s pre-Christmas offers on www.europeantour.com/tickets
The BMW PGA Championship offers six days of high quality entertainment, including Official Practice Day, Celebrity Pro-Am and four rounds of compelling competition from May 20-25 for the equivalent of just over £10 a day if Season tickets , priced £70, are purchased before Christmas 2014. The pre-event price rises to £80 after Christmas and £95 on the gate. Concessions start at £45, rising to £55 and £65.
As ever, the action really hots up over the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday, when the successor to Italy’s Matteo Manassero will be revealed, and a special Adult Weekend pass starts at £60 pre-Christmas, increasing to £70 and £80 (concessions £30, £40 and £50).
One key change for 2014 is for adult daily tickets, which should now be purchased for specific ‘named’ days of the Championship (Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday), which replaces the ‘Any One Day’ ticket. The three prices for Thursday and Friday are pegged at £30, £35 and £40 (concessions £15, £20, £25).
Saturday is priced at £35, £40 and £45 (concessions £20, £25, £30) and Sunday, when the drama reaches a climax on the West Course, at £40, £45 and £50 (concessions £25, £30, £35).
The increase in attendances in recent years prompted The European Tour to throw open the doors to the public on Tuesday last year, designated for the first time as an Official Practice Day. This will continue on Tuesday May 20 in 2014 with ticket prices pegged at 2013 prices of £5, £7 and £10 on the gate with no concessions.
Wednesday May 21 will once again bring together stars of stage, screen, sport and entertainment in the exciting Celebrity Pro-Am Day (£10 pre-Christmas; £12 pre-event and £15 on the gate), where the public will be able to mingle with the worlds of golf and celebrity. Details of participants in this enjoyable precursor to the main event will be published nearer the day on www.europeantour.com
The Park and Ride system, which was successfully introduced for the first time in 2013 to help facilitate the flow of traffic in the vicinity and allow spectators ready access to the Wentworth Estate, will again be in operation, operating from locations to be advised at a later date.
BMW Owners and Official Badge Holders will be able to park on site as in previous years, while there is an opportunity for the public to pre-pay for a limited number of parking spaces on site at a cost of £10 per day from Wednesday onwards. On site car parking is only available by booking in advance in conjunction with the purchase of advance tickets.
Reserved seating in the magnificent 18th green grandstand, previously limited to the weekend only, will be available for pre-booking over all four days of the Championship in 2014. Thursday and Friday tickets are priced at £10, rising to £15 for Saturday and £20 on Sunday. This limited Reserved Seating is also available on a first come, first served basis.
Families planning to attend the Championship should note that all children aged 16 and under will be admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
Jamie Birkmyre, BMW PGA Championship Director, said: “The BMW PGA Championship will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the partnership between The European Tour, BMW and Wentworth Club next May and we believe the event continues to represent outstanding value over one of the best weeks of professional golf in the world.
“We are committed to providing a high level of service at competitive prices in the sporting arena and we believe that everyone attending in 2014 will once again enjoy the enhanced overall experience. Due to the high level of interest in the Championship, the vast majority of facilities – such as public catering and refreshment outlets – will be fully operational from Tuesday while Wednesday continues to grow as the ‘must-see’ experience for celebrity spotters.”
