A Challenge for The Carrick

8.15am 5th August 2005 - Sponsorship & Events

The 2006 Bunkered Matchplay Challenge, a Ryder Cup-style event between Scotland’s home-based professionals and their amateur counterparts, will be held at Scotland’s most eagerly-awaited championship golf course – The Carrick on Loch Lomond.
Designed by award-winning Canadian golf architect Doug Carrick, The Carrick on Loch Lomond will open its doors to the Scottish public next year, which means the Bunkered Matchplay Challenge will be the first-ever tournament held at the sensational new venue.
Paul Grant, publisher of ‘Bunkered’, Scotland’s No.1 selling golf magazine, said Scottish golf fans can look forward to watching Scotland’s most exciting new tournament contested on the country’s most talked-about new golf course.
“The Bunkered Matchplay Challenge deserves a top-class championship venue,” he continued “and fans of the event are promised an exceptional weekend’s golf in the most sensational surroundings.”
Stewart Smith, the director of golf at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, said he was delighted to secure the new venue’s first-ever championship. “It is a privilege to host the Bunkered Matchplay Challenge here at The Carrick on Loch Lomond in October 2006. As a PGA professional, it is particularly exciting to secure the staging of such an event, which I know stimulates strong interest amongst golfers in Scotland.
“The Scottish Region professionals and the Scottish Golf Union team contesting the match and everyone at The Carrick are looking forward to working with ‘Bunkered’ to produce a great week of golf.”
The two-day event will be preceded by a pro-am, while the fabulous five star De Vere Cameron House Hotel will be the venue for a glittering gala dinner and prize giving on the final night. The Bunkered Matchplay Challenge will be contested on 12-14 October 2006.
Last year, former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher led the professionals to a 6½ – 5½ win over the amateurs, who were led by former Open Championship Silver Medal winner Barclay Howard.
