Books from the collection of Herbert Warren Wind are for sale through an on-line auction that will close on 29th October. The auction is now live at www.oldgolfauctions.com The collection includes close to 700 volumes of:
- presentation first edition books authored by the late Wind and by other writers and sports figures;
- books that Wind either edited or reviewed, together with his incisive notations;
- his own set of collectible and reference books relating to the field of sports (the majority bearing his signature as owner);
- plus other personal items such as the typewriter he used to write his books, journals, manuscripts, notes, original artwork and other memorabilia with which Wind surrounded himself.
The collection represents Wind’s working library. Wind’s own titles were very collectible as first editions. He was himself a collector of rare and fine books in the field of sports and had assembled an unusual number of other authors, sports celebrities and publishers‘ presentation copies of their books. All items come with a letter of provenance personally signed by the executors of the Wind estate.
The entire proceeds from the auction are to be donated to ‘Road to Responsibility‘, a not-for-profit organisation that supports approximately 1,100 individuals with disabilities ranging from mental retardation to autism in the Greater Boston area.
The auction closes on the weekend of Saturday 28th October and Sunday 29th October. The entire collection of lots can be viewed www.oldgolfauctions.com along with simple instructions of how to register to bid.
