The golfing memorabilia market will have been greatly up-lifted by the recently held Bonhams specialist golf sale comprising 470 lots that realised $235,000 (£117,000) and achieved a very positive 80% sales rate. Some of the many highlights were:
Lot 162. A Francis Brewster Simplex Crosshead centre shafted play club circa 1897, sold for $3,640 (£1,821)
Lot 271. A Robert Forgan’s ‘The Golfer’s Handbook‘, a pre 1st edition published in 1881 sold for $13,630 (£6,815)
Lot 272. A George Robb ‘Historical Gossip about Golf and Golfers, published in 1863, sold for $18,330 (£9,165)
Lot 141. A Tiger Woods PGA of America gold signet ring, sold for $11,750 (£5,875)
Lot 147. A Craig Campbell painting of Tiger Woods, signed by artist and player, sold for $25,850 (£12,925)
Lot 111. A 12 box of Haskell bramble golf balls, circa 1900, sold for $15,040 (£7,520)
Bonhams next golf sale will take place on Friday 20 April in Brookline, MA. Items for this sale should be in the Bonhams & Butterfields San Francisco office by 22 February to be included in the catalogue and sale.

Bonhams next UK golf sale will take place on Friday 13 July to coincide with the Open Championship being played at Carnoustie. One of its highlights will surely be the original Philp putter used in 1872 by Young Tom Morris to win his 4th and last Open Championship (£50,000-80,000).
There will also be a Carnoustie section within the auction to include 1931/1937/1953/1968/1975 medals and programmes, Sir Henry Cotton/Ben Hogan/Gary Player/Tom Watson/Paul Lawrie memorabilia, autographs, photographs, flags, letters etc.
