Italian fashion brand Loro Piana, Official Supplier for Team Europe for the 2020 Ryder Cup, has unveiled details of the outfits that will be worn by Padraig Harrington’s team for the matches, which take place at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin from September 24-26.
The outfits, created in collaboration with Harrington, will be worn by the players and the support team throughout all of their official engagements both on and off the golf course.
For the first time, the company has designed a waterproof jacket which features a woven wind microfibre using a three-layer technique. The outer layer is Wind, the waterproof central membrane is Storm System, a treatment that transforms materials into water and wind-resistant fabrics, and the inner layer is a super-thin and stretchy jersey. All the seams are thermal sealed, as are the zippers.
For knitwear, Loro Piana is has using a super fine wool, a natural fibre that offers excellent thermoregulation and is comfortable, lightweight and breathable. This year, the wool has been elasticised to accommodate players’ movements. In addition, trousers in soft, flowing wool and silk, and polo shirts in technical, breathable jersey, are ideal for golf wear.
The colours of the outfits for Friday and Sunday’s matches will match those of the blue and yellow of the European flag, while Saturday’s teamwear will be dedicated to Loro Piana’s distinguishing kummel nuance. In general, neutral tones are paired with brighter colours which run along sides, sleeves, shoulders and collars, to highlight the body’s movements.
“As captain, I want the players to feel as comfortable as possible throughout the week of the Ryder Cup, and the Loro Piana clothing is a key part of that,” said team captain Pádraig Harrington.
A selection of the Team Europe uniforms are available now in Loro Piana stores and from its online shop.
