Strutt & Parker have sold The Hampshire Golf Club after a short period of private marketing. The course was developed by the vendors and opened in 1993.
Its location, close to the expanding town of Andover and the A303 trunk road provides it with great opportunity for further development. The large site of 176 acres is all on free draining land giving year round play.
The 18 hole course with a length of 6,382 yards offers a good test of golf. It is complimented by a modern driving range and 9 hole executive course which is currently being re-developed and when they re-open in 2008 will provide excellent teaching facilities and they will transform The Hampshire Golf Club into a first rate facility.
The property was offered to a handful of parties known to Strutt & Parker and sold with a guide price of £2m.
The new owners are Jonathan and Lynn Spencer and family, whose company owns and operates some care homes in the north west of England. This is the Spencers’ first venture in the golf business.
Charles Greville-Heygate, the partner responsible for golf in the Leisure & Hotel Department of Strutt & Parker handled the sale. He commented that “I was first involved with the property in 1994 when carrying out a valuation and have seen it develop well over the years. I believe it now has the potential to become one of the best golf centres in the area providing facilities for all levels of golf ability”.
