The Cave unveils major expansion plans

Kent club unveils plans to transform the property into a country club-style resort

The Cave Hotel and Golf Resort in Kent has submitted plans to its local council to expand its spa, leisure and accommodation offering.

The Faversham-based resort has applied to add a three-storey spa, 36 additional hotel rooms, padel courts, five holiday lodges, and 24 self-build residential units.

The proposal also includes new offices, additional parking, landscaping, an improved driving range, and a redesigned academy course.

The expansion plans are built on the back of the success of the existing 41-bedroom hotel, which operates at about 90% capacity year-round.

The plans include an hotel extension, the redesign of the short course, an enhanced driving range, padel courts, and plots for 24 self-build private homes

The Cave Hotel was rebranded from Boughton Golf Club in 2019 as part of a wider £12m redevelopment project spearheaded by owners James Tory and Johnathan Callister.

“Since opening, there has been increasing demand for spa and gym facilities,” a spokesman for the club said. “The hotel currently only provides a small gym and pool, and in-room spa treatments only, not capable of meeting the needs of existing hotel guests.

“The proposed hotel and spa extension will enable the hotel to meet booking demands and better serve the needs of its guests. Due to the cost of building the hotel and spa extension, the 24 self-built and custom-built dwellings are proposed to partially finance the redevelopment plans.”

The Cave offers 27 holes of golf divided between an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole par-three academy course.

It is estimated that about 100 new jobs could be created by the expansion plans, with the overall aim being to make a ‘long-term sustainable business model for the hotel’.
