Less than a month after buying Styrrup Hall Golf and Country Club in Doncaster, new owners Sheffield-based BHI Group Ltd has announced a raft of renovation and refurbishment plans for the 160-acre site.
Having previously been under family ownership for the past 25 years, the club’s managing director David Simpson has unveiled plans to modernise the club across the board, starting with the clubhouse.
“We’ve got a refurbishment plan underway and we’re going to do the function room first, and then we’re going to move on to the members’ lounge with balcony before the restaurant which is going to become a gastro pub open to the public,” said Simpson.
“We want to focus on the hospitality side of the business first, and bring it up to date, as it was all a bit 1980s. I want it to be a family-friendly country club where there are lots of things to do – in addition to golf – and make it a nice place for everyone to use and visit.”
The club, which first opened in 2000 and currently has 450 members, boasts an 18-hole, 6,745-yard golf course and a 14-bay driving range.
